Pumukal is one of the most iconic characters in children’s books and remains popular today. Now the ghost is already celebrating its 60th birthday.

60 years ago was the time of birth on 21st February Pumuckl, In 1962 the first episode of the radio drama series “Spook in der Werkstadt” was broadcast by Bayerischer Rundfunk. Since then, the popular kobold has delighted young and old alike.

Apart from the radio drama, the story of Pumukal was published in many ways. The first season of the television series “Mr. Eder und Sean Pumukal” ran in 1982 and 1983, with season two in 1988 and 1989. The series about the ghost was shown in 28 countries. Pumukal is also known in Brazil and China. In addition, films, books and, in 1999, another less successful TV series, “Pumukl’s Adventures” were produced. Pumukal also got his own music.

The Little Goblin was invented by Alice Cout. The children’s book writer, who moved from Stuttgart to Munich, quickly became a local celebrity. In 1938 they were named the first official Munich Kindle. The author passed away in 2015 at the age of 94.

As is well known, Pumukal belongs to Master Eder, the owner of a carpenter’s workshop in a backyard in Munich. Gustle Bearhammer played the lovable loner in his early ’60s whose red-haired goblin got trapped in a pot of glue. The actor passed away in 1993 at the age of 71.

He cast his vote for Pumukl

Hans Klarin was behind Pumukal’s voice. The actor and voice actor who gave Kobold his unmistakable voice for 40 years, died in 2005. Clarins could also be heard in radio plays and the television series of the same name. He also sang the title song – “Hurrah, Hurra, Red-Haired Ghost, Hurra, Hurra, Pumukal Ist Da” – himself, and the song was co-composed by a singer, among others. Howard Karpendel,

Imp can thank Barbara Vaughan Johnson for Pumukal’s presence. The German painter and artist is Redhead’s first designer. From 1963 to 1978 he illustrated Alice Cout’s Pumukl stories. Pumukal was animated for television in Hungary.

Pumukal disputed

In 2003, a court granted Barbara Vaughan Johnson the right to be named as the author of the graphic template for every visual depiction of Pumukal. Trouble ensued later as Johnson supported a children’s painting competition looking for a friend of Pumukal’s. Here Kaut saw the violation of his moral rights. The court ruled in favor of the artist. Alice Cout and Barbara Vaughan Johnson later reconciled.

Pumukal is coming back

Leprechaun is back on TV, The new edition of the successful series “Mr. Eder and His Pumukl” can be seen on RTL+ and RTL. The broadcaster announced this in the summer of 2021. BETA FILM AND PRODUCTION COMPANY NEUESUPER WORKING ON “NEW STORIES FROM PUMUKAL”. Award-winning director Marcus H. Rosenmuller will direct the film. Filming is scheduled to begin in spring 2022.
